I want to apologize for being gone and to thank you for subscribing in the first place. It’s my sincere hope that I’ll learn consistency, and if I need to freak out and take some time away from posting that I’ll at least have the decency to share my freak out with you. That said, over the last month or so, I’ve begun to realize that maybe I’m outgrowing confessional writing. Of course that’s absurd because I love confessional writing. No, I’m not outgrowing confessional writing, but I am struggling with form. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot about how to write a good essay and memoir and so my big hope is to bring you posts about the writing life that will also pack a punch; I hope to write posts that are more cohesive, funny and meaningful. This blog might be taking on a slightly different slant, but moreover it will begin, I hope, to contain better writing.

- “I like to sit in front of the fire at night and reflect. Memories always come up – thoughts, ideas, visions – and if you let them, ghosts will sit with you awhile, if you’re not too afraid, that is.” ~Sting

“If something inside of you is real, we will probably find it interesting, and it will probably be universal. So you must risk placing real emotion at the center of your work. Write straight into the emotional center of things. Write toward vulnerability. Risk being unliked. Tell the truth as you understand it. If you’re a writer you have a moral obligation to do this. And it is a revolutionary act—truth is always subversive.”
